Ukraine: New international checkpoints to be reconstructed, opened by UEFA EURO 2012

To guarantee by the UEFA 2012 European Football Championship the required transit capacity and contemporary service of the international checkpoints functioning in Volyn region (West Ukraine), they must be reconstructed, and new ones must open.

These recommendations were made at the guest meeting of the working commission for transborder cooperation and environmental protection of the parliamentary assembly of Ukraine and Poland closed in Lutsk Monday.

As reported, during EURO 2012 the loading on the Yahodyn checkpoint alone will grow by 35 - 40 percent. That is why the program for the reconstruction of the checkpoint, in the first place provides for completion of is second stage.

The parties touched on joint construction of a new customs crossing, Adamchuky - Zbereze, which would unload the already functioning international checkpoints on the Ukraine - Poland border.

Support was also given to the Polish party's proposal about the need for development on both countries' border territory of different pedestrian crossings and eco-tourist routes.
